Emissions Monitoring from Space and Ground Conference 2026

Integrating Atmospheric Observations in GHG and Air Pollutants Emissions MRV

Background

This conference, co-organised by European entities (ESA, EEA, CAMS and EUMETSAT), will bring together several European and international stakeholders involved in the monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gases and air pollutants emissions. The event will span the observations, modelling, national inventory and reporting, operational service, and policy communities. Participants will be able to attend state-of-the-art presentations about emission estimations based on spaceborne and ground-based observations, atmospheric modelling, and integrated monitoring systems, covering applications ranging from national emission inventories to sector specific sources. The event will serve as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, helping to bridge scientific advances, operational implementation, and policy needs.

Objectives

The core objective of the conference is to showcase and discuss scientific, operational, and policy-relevant advances supporting the monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions.

Attendees will engage in discussions on the latest advancement on European and international policy frameworks, advances in observation- and model-based emission monitoring approaches, and the integration of these approaches into operational MRV systems. Specific focus will be given to national inventories, and how these methodologies can support the compilation, verification and quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes, enhancing consistency across reporting and monitoring frameworks.

Sessions

The workshop will be structured around the following thematic sessions:

  • Top-Down inventories supporting National inventories: from R&D to Operational systems
  • Training/Workshop on understanding the inversion methodologies and underlying observations (aimed at inventory compilers and anyone interested in using inversion-based emissions)
  • Link between inversions and LULUCF communities
  • Space Missions and Ground Networks: Status and Products
  • Methane from local and diffuse sources
  • CO2 monitoring at facility scale – EU-ETS and CBAM perspective
  • Sectoral Deep Dives
  • Ancillary data for improving emission estimates

Participation

The Emissions Monitoring from Space and Ground is a free conference open to all the interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral communities of experts working on GHG and air pollutants emissions detection, quantification and reporting.
Oral presentations will be invitation-only from the Programme Committee.
Acceptance to present in the poster session is determined by the Programme Committee after review of submitted abstracts.

We strongly encourage in-person participation. A broadcast of the event is foreseen; details will follow soon.

No participation/registration fee will be charged. Participants are expected to finance their own travel and accommodation expenses.

The official language of workshop is English.

Abstract Submission

The abstract submission interface will open soon, and we invite you to submit your contribution along with your selection of the conference thematic sessions and the poster presentation format.
Abstracts should be between 200 and 400 words. As a reference, one A4 page with single spacing typically contains 400–500 words.
Please ensure that you provide complete co‑author information (including first name, last name, affiliation, and contact email).
